My name is Devin, I am a new(ish) Buena Park-er (moved here in July), and am a journalism student of the Medill School of Journalism at Northwestern.

I am wondering: If there was a new publication for Uptowners, what would you like to see in it? You know how Time Out magazine has the "Around Town" section. Think of stuff like that, but specific to Uptown. Would you like to see local events (community dinners, concerts, etc); Uptown bar/restaurant...

It's truly amazing that with the decline in real estate and retail - she has managed to get major TIF investments into Uptown. And the Wilson Yard project is moving way ahead of schedule. So much for all the Nay Sayers on this Board who kept trying to hold it back - or say there would never be a Target there. They have all been proven wrong ! Plus additional TIF money will now be spent on a Fish Farm....way to go Helen ! Some timelines to Note

...just thought I'd check in with you folks to deliver the great news that I am no longer an Uptown resident (and the crowd cheers wildly) - although it would seem this place is as barren as Uptown north of Montrose anymore. You see, this is one of those rare win-win situations where people like Irish Pirate, UptownRising & other like minded people get to rid themselves of my presence in their community - while I, in turn, get to escape the fruits of Shiller's 20+ year experiment...

Has BPN outlived its usefulness?

Last post was in July? Helen was chased out of meeting at Truman in August?
Where are the comments? Or has this forum become too open to tampering and spying?
Maybe Halloween pumpkins and trite message posts will suffice for another year of BPN.

Cement and Other trucks for Wilson Yard

Just curious....do my neighbors on Broadway experience the same frequency of Ozinga cement and other construction trucks and semi's as we do on Sheridan? They start howling up Sheridan at 6am and the back and forth does not stop until 7 or 8pm, and the noise from these trucks is incredible. I am just wondering if they have a scatter pattern or if they are only using Sheridan?

My friends at the Uptown Update have a picture of a huge sign of a TARGET logo hoisted at Wilson Yard. Way to go Helen Shiller and Peter Holsten in terms of getting just the right type of retail to Uptown and proving your critics wrong . Meanwhile the Uptown Update and the UNC must feel really sad given the hundreds of emails and letters telling us that Target was not coming to Uptown !

irving/sheridan condos cancelled?

there's a big real estate sign at the old shell station at Irving and Sheridan (SE corner) that says "Available". So...that midrise condo building is not happening? thank god i hope that its a retailer that buys the spot we dont need any more condos!!!!!!!!!!!

While I've read the Uptown Update blog with some interest - and thinks its a relatively good snapshot of Uptown - I'm concerned about how obviously biased it is.

Couple of quick points
1) It's written by the same group that supports and constitutes the UNC - and the anti-Wilson Yard set
2) To these folks nothing about Wilson Yard including the Target, the retail, and the two mid to low income buildings is good for Uptown. The overall position of the blog seems...

missing postal box

the post office's blue mail drop box at kenmore and irving is gone now i used that for my mail pretty often. i mean i can walk a little further for one but this was convenient for the hood.
they took it away with that new work they did on the corner sidewalk for ADA compliance. hope it comes back.

building at irving and sheridan

the nasty building at irving and sheridan which houses the Chase and the Taco place has had its door frames and the window frames sanded and stained black. looks a little better but the upstairs windows are still covered with paper. nice they at least made it look a little better.
