Sour Grapes...its amazing that for as long as I can remember the UNC ( ie Fixwilsonyard.com) and Uptown Update have been claiming the the Target store appearing at Wilson Yard was a hoax and no such thing would occur. Then they challenged Peter Holsten to actually have a sign put up there. When the TARGET sign was put up, as well as posters at the Aldi ....they claim that this is not a true sign from Target (wrong logo) !

You've got to really feel sorry for these folks...with their lawsuits funded by $ 40 drinks at Nicks Uptown. Here's the reality
1) The construction at Wilson Yard is going great guns ( in fact its ahead of schedule !) and provides employment to over 200 construction workers at the site ( including overtime)
2) The Target store and the housing is also on track ...when built it will provide employment to over 100 Uptown folks ( not bad given the economy right now)
3) Given the location as well as the fact that a Centrally located Target store draws thousands of shoppers a day there is no reason to think that the other retail will not succeed by piggy-backing off the traffic created by the Target store. Remember the nearest Target store is at Elston and there is no real Big Box discount retail store within the city. If you'd like to check out the crows a Target store draws drive to this out of the way Target and check the parking lot on a week-end.
4) Of the housing - the Senior Housing is hardly going to cause any problems ( lets face it nobody is really scared of folks over 65 and senior housing shortages are a major issue in the city) and the 80 other apartments if well managed ( Peter Holsten has a great track record here)....should hardly be an issue.
...Also remember the city has spent over $ 50 million on this construction and its good to know that Wilson Yard is one taxpayer funded constuction project that is way ahead of schedule. So while it isn't Artists Housing a la Bronzeville which is what the UNC wanted - it does serve a useful purpose. Beats the hole in the ground that Wilson Yard was for the last ten years anyway !

Buena Park GWM...sure we sold our single family home on Hutchinson - just in time prior to the crash - but hey I'll be around for Easter and we may still move back as California is not all rosy ( if you've been following the economy). All I've been trying to do is present a more balanced POV than the UNC and Uptown Update. Lets face it - whether you like it or now...I'll repeat !
1) The construction at Wilson Yard continues at a great pace....and it looks like it will be on schedule for next year...in fact the UNC Lawsuit funded by $ 40 drinks at Nicks Uptown may have provided some encouragement to Peter Holsten to actually speed up construction. Also with $ 50 million of TIF funding this is one project in the city that has no problem with funding and given how much negative publicity its gotten for Uptown ( thanks UNC) the last thing Mayor Daley would want to happen is for it to fail - and drag down the $ 50 million TIF investment.
2) The Target store will happen. The sign is up for everyone to see...and if it was fraudulent Target would have been the first to object and have it removed. Remember Target has gotten plenty of calls from Uptown Update readers inquiring about the sign....
3) The location in the city of Chicago is ideal for Target and city dwellers and should do well...check out how well Target is doing at the dumpy, out of the way store in Elston

Lets face it on Kenmore and Buena Park itself over a 1000 new condo's have been built over the past three years ( including the Buena Pointe) so I don't really see any issue with 80 well managed apartments where residents will need to work and pay rents of $ 850 a month for the three bedroom apartments.
